Time to knock off and get a cold one. Any big plans for the weekend?

Interesting headline on that paper. “Italians in full retreat: Athens.” The photo is dated 1940. T he Italians, under Mussolini, had invaded Greece, and the Greeks were kicking them back to the border. But then the Germans got involved, and Greece fell in 1941 . Guy on the left is also wearing an FDR campaign button.

Whelp, working all weekend. But I've been stuck in the office all day today, should hopefully actually be able to go out on the road tomorrow.

Skating, hockey, hopefully not injuring myself, drive fintail, do taxes, etc.

Among the cars outside, I see a Model A coupe, 40 Plymouth, Lincoln Zephyr.

The f irst two Texas Region SCC A Time Trail events are this weekend, I’ve got stiff competition from a couple of my friends (maybe I shouldn’t have encouraged them so much at the autocrosses to try the time trials).

I’m still the favorite for now, but these guys learn fast and are anything but slow. I’ve only lost 2 time trials in the last 3 years (one was due to my transpon der falling off) and my PB is about 1.5s ahead of my closest friends’. I’ll be pissed if one of them beats me and I’ll be disappointed if they’re withing a half second (I wouldn’t put it past them, bunch of jerks driving all fast and whatnot).

Of course, that means all the pressure is on me and there’s no telling what will happen over the course of the weekend. I’d love to improve and pick up some more time (I set a new PB at the last event and my fastest lap left a couple of tenths on the table). I think I’m more excited and nervous about this Time Trial than any of last year’s.

I’m going to drop in my new generator on the Ferd... which will take about twenty minutes if that, so I probably need other weekend plans as well.

My rule of thumb is always to at least double any estimate of time necessary for a repair. But that’s just me.

Thanks, that’s the plan! The track we’re going to (Motorsports Ranch Cresson) is pretty safe and it’s my home track so I’ve got tons of laps there and know every part of the track (and a few of the areas just off the track). Really, there are only two places that could cause problems and one is only an issue if I have brake problems (the other could be troublesome if I forget to respect it).

The SCCA Winter Fest Majors Club Race is being held at the same time and venue (we’re sneaking in our TT during one of the sessions), so there will be plenty of racing to watch too!

Fortunately, the old gen being out, it’s a question of -

(1)Assemble with three bolts

(2) Connect three lugs

(3) Disconnect wire from voltage regulator, touch to different terminal, connect back

(4) Tighten bolts

20 minutes is a double-estimate or even triple even with a minute plus per bolt. Which it isn’t, because working on that car is like Baby’s First Wrench Job.

Cleaning house. I have someone coming over on Sunday to move boxes of my accumulated crap down to the basement - out of sight, out of mind. B etween the cancer and anemia (brought on by the tumor ) I am just too tired on a daily basis to do this work myself. “There is no problem too big that money can’t solve”, something my dad once said on a family vacation years ago when some problem cropped up. He didn’t stress about it, and just coughed up the $$$ to make the problem go away. If I can afford it, I’ll just pay to make things happen, like this cleaning and moving work.

Mom is coming into town next week to take care of me after surgery. I figure that I won’t be able to handle the 19 steps to my bedroom up in the loft, so I also need to convert my home office in the downstairs bedroom back into a bedroom for myself; t hankfully my place has two bedrooms and two full baths, a little luxury I like to have if I can afford it . I’ll just need to set up a little office in my office, with a computer, radio, TV and USB charging station next to the bed so I don’t have to move.

I looked back a bit to remind myself of what you’re up against. Saw this:

But once this stuff is in the basement, what are the odds I’ll touch it again?..

That describes my garage. I’ve got so much shit out there that just needs to go into the trash. I’ve got piles of papers from my desk that have been put into a box and not touched in two years. Obviously, none of it is important. I just need to trash it. The struggle is real.

Best wishes with all of this. I hope you can truly put it behind you soon.

I’m gonna not work!

It’s been a long couple of weeks and I was on call last weekend. Plus I had a 12-hour-plus, 600 mile day today thru 3 states. So I'm not planning to do much.

Just me. I've always watched the Pro Bowl. I also watched the World League/NFL Europe, the XFL, the UFL, and I'll be watching the AAF when it debuts after the Super Bowl. But not Arena Football, because that's just silly.

Actually, they are at Yale. http://photogrammar.yale.edu/ “ Photogrammar is a web-based platform for organizing, searching, and visualizing the 170,000 photographs from 1935 to 1945 created by the United States Farm Security Administration and Office of War Information (FSA-OWI)“ Pretty cool. Look up your home town . Its the whole country. You just shocked me by picking a random pic—and it turn out from being in my hometown!

I hadn’t noticed the watermark. They are always very discreet about it, so it doesn’t detract from the photo. But that’s a new one. Neat.
